The Athens National Art Gallery is full of contemporary Greek art and houses almost 10,000 paintings, numerous sculptures and detailed engravings, created after the 1821 Greek War of Independence.
This Athens art gallery also features some furniture, miniatures and some European art by leading artists, such as Picasso, Caravaggio, Canaletto and Rembrandt. The nearest metro station to the museum is the Evangelismos stop.

Athens Art Galleries: Folk Ceramic Museum - Tzisdarakis Mosque - 1 Areos Street, Monastiraki Square, Athens 105 55, Greece

Athens' Folk Ceramic Museum is situated in the Monastiraki area of Athens in the Tzisdarakis Mosque, which was built 250 years ago, and is known as the 'Tzami' by the locals. The mosque is now home to the Greek Folk Art Museum and the ceramic museum is located in an annexe of the mosque. This large and impressive pottery collection has many splendid ceramic works of art that were donated to the Greek Folk Art Museum in 1974. Exhibits include traditional Greek kitchenware, storage jars from Chios and Thessaly, earthenware oven dishes from Sifnos and there are also some ceramic souvenirs available for tourists. Monastiraki Station is the nearest Metro station to the Ceramic Museum.

Situated in the Kifissia region of Athens, the Art Gallery Phenomenon is home to a large and interesting collection of art by Eleni Kolaitou and is the perfect place to find a unique present. The works of art include unusual ceramic sculptures, bronze figurines, jewellery in the shape of insects and numerous miniature ships. There are also some paintings by Christophoros Assimis, husband of Eleni Kolaitou, all of which are for sale. The nearest Metro station to this Athens art gallery is the Kifissia stop.

The Athens' Emfietzoglou Gallery in Athens is filled with modern Greek art and this private art collection is owned by the wealthy Prodromos Emfietzoglou. There are over 500 works of art on exhibit and these include some wonderful sculptures and some of the best Greek paintings from the last 200 years. Guided tours are available. The nearest Metro station to the Athens gallery is Maroussi Station.
